In Matthew 12:28, Jesus said that if he cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God had come upon those listening.
Jesus was trying to demonstrate something about the Kingdom. He wasn’t merely operating in power, He was operating in authority, that of the Kingdom. He was saying that it was the authority of the Kingdom by which He cast out demons. His point was if He was doing these things, there must be something else unseen, the same unseen angelic realm that He mentioned to Nathanael in John 1, that was the cause of it.
The invisible, eternal Kingdom was the basis for Christ’s deliverances. Without that authority, there would be no lasting change. But, His observers wanted to see something else. Christ’s point was simple. If the Kingdom wasn’t right here, this stuff you see wouldn’t be happening. It’s about the authority He was walking in, backed up by the power.
