CLAIM: Paul describes the rapture of the church and the resurrection of the dead at the Second Coming (1 Thes. 4:15-18). Next, Paul encourages believers to watch (1 Thes. 5:1-10). He concludes with a prayer to be sanctified and to stand blameless at Jesus’ coming (1 Thes. 5:23).
These are true words for us. Although there is difference on the understanding timing of the second coming, this clearly describes that. Of note, however, 1 Thessalonians 4:16, there is mention of the “Last Trumpet”. This is often interpreted as the Seventh Trumpet of Revelation, however this should not be. The Seven Trumpets of Revelation never claim to be the last in history, only the fulfillment of that series. The last trumpet will occur on His Second coming, as I understand it, at the end of Revelation 20 when He comes with His white throne of glory, in the glory of the Father, with His Father’s angels with Him. There is no textual necessity to connect the two trumpets.
