Abstract: Regarding the Olivet Discourse, Matthew 24, substantial textual support for separating the apparent 70 AD events in the Discourse from the Second Coming events is given. From the text alone, the case is laid out in Matthew 24 that the Lord was directly indicating two separate events, which an incorrect translation of Matthew 24:29 “Immediately after” wrongly linked in time. As this clause indicates only sequence, not timing, and the textual indicators indicate these as two separate events, the words of vv34-36 also directly indicate that two separate events are in view. The “But…” of v36 indicates the intended exclusion of the “that day” event (v29-31) from the “these things” events of v4-22, and demonstrate that the most plain, and literal reading of the chapter, after clearing up Matthew 24:29, is two separate sets of events connected only by “Next, but after the tribulation….”
